9    <code class="command">DROP DATABASE</code> drops a database. It removes the
10    catalog entries for the database and deletes the directory
11    containing the data.  It can only be executed by the database owner.
12    It cannot be executed while you are connected to the target database.
13    (Connect to <code class="literal">postgres</code> or any other database to issue this
14    command.)
15    Also, if anyone else is connected to the target database, this command will
16    fail unless you use the <code class="literal">FORCE</code> option described below.

18    <code class="command">DROP DATABASE</code> cannot be undone.  Use it with care!

20       Do not throw an error if the database does not exist. A notice is issued

25       Attempt to terminate all existing connections to the target database.
26       It doesn't terminate if prepared transactions, active logical replication
27       slots or subscriptions are present in the target database.

29       This terminates background worker connections and connections that the
30       current user has permission to terminate
31       with <code class="function">pg_terminate_backend</code>, described in
32       <a class="xref" href="functions-admin.html#FUNCTIONS-ADMIN-SIGNAL" title="9.28.2. Server Signaling Functions">Section 9.28.2</a>.  If connections would remain,
33       this command will fail.
