3 <span class="productname">PostgreSQL</span> uses an internal heuristic
4 parser for all date/time input support. Dates and times are input as
5 strings, and are broken up into distinct fields with a preliminary
6 determination of what kind of information can be in the
7 field. Each field is interpreted and either assigned a numeric
8 value, ignored, or rejected.
9 The parser contains internal lookup tables for all textual fields,
10 including months, days of the week, and time zones.
