   7    <code class="function">SPI_commit</code> commits the current transaction.  It is
   8    approximately equivalent to running the SQL
   9    command <code class="command">COMMIT</code>.  After the transaction is committed, a
  10    new transaction is automatically started using default transaction
  11    characteristics, so that the caller can continue using SPI facilities.
  12    If there is a failure during commit, the current transaction is instead
  13    rolled back and a new transaction is started, after which the error is
  14    thrown in the usual way.
  15   </p><p>
  16    <code class="function">SPI_commit_and_chain</code> is the same, but the new
  17    transaction is started with the same transaction
  18    characteristics as the just finished one, like with the SQL command
  19    <code class="command">COMMIT AND CHAIN</code>.
  20   </p><p>
  21    These functions can only be executed if the SPI connection has been set as
  22    nonatomic in the call to <code class="function">SPI_connect_ext</code>.
