   8    <code class="command">ALTER TABLESPACE</code> can be used to change the definition of
   9    a tablespace.

  11    You must own the tablespace to change the definition of a tablespace.
  12    To alter the owner, you must also be able to <code class="literal">SET ROLE</code>
  13    to the new owning role.
  14    (Note that superusers have these privileges automatically.)

  16       The name of an existing tablespace.
  17      </p></dd><dt><span class="term"><em class="replaceable"><code>new_name</code></em></span></dt><dd><p>
  18       The new name of the tablespace.  The new name cannot
  19       begin with <code class="literal">pg_</code>, as such names
  20       are reserved for system tablespaces.
  21      </p></dd><dt><span class="term"><em class="replaceable"><code>new_owner</code></em></span></dt><dd><p>
  22       The new owner of the tablespace.
  23      </p></dd><dt><span class="term"><em class="replaceable"><code>tablespace_option</code></em></span></dt><dd><p>
  24       A tablespace parameter to be set or reset.  Currently, the only
  25       available parameters are <code class="varname">seq_page_cost</code>,
  26       <code class="varname">random_page_cost</code>, <code class="varname">effective_io_concurrency</code>
  27       and <code class="varname">maintenance_io_concurrency</code>.
  28       Setting these values for a particular tablespace will override the
  29       planner's usual estimate of the cost of reading pages from tables in
  30       that tablespace, and how many concurrent I/Os are issued, as established
  31       by the configuration parameters of the
  32       same name (see <a class="xref" href="runtime-config-query.html#GUC-SEQ-PAGE-COST">seq_page_cost</a>,
  33       <a class="xref" href="runtime-config-query.html#GUC-RANDOM-PAGE-COST">random_page_cost</a>,
  34       <a class="xref" href="runtime-config-resource.html#GUC-EFFECTIVE-IO-CONCURRENCY">effective_io_concurrency</a>,
  35       <a class="xref" href="runtime-config-resource.html#GUC-MAINTENANCE-IO-CONCURRENCY">maintenance_io_concurrency</a>).  This may be useful if
  36       one tablespace is located on a disk which is faster or slower than the
  37       remainder of the I/O subsystem.
