   5    A checkpoint is a point in the write-ahead log sequence at which
   6    all data files have been updated to reflect the information in the
   7    log.  All data files will be flushed to disk.  Refer to
   8    <a class="xref" href="wal-configuration.html" title="28.5. WAL Configuration">Section 28.5</a> for more details about what happens
   9    during a checkpoint.

  11    The <code class="command">CHECKPOINT</code> command forces an immediate
  12    checkpoint when the command is issued, without waiting for a
  13    regular checkpoint scheduled by the system (controlled by the settings in
  14    <a class="xref" href="runtime-config-wal.html#RUNTIME-CONFIG-WAL-CHECKPOINTS" title="19.5.2. Checkpoints">Section 19.5.2</a>).
  15    <code class="command">CHECKPOINT</code> is not intended for use during normal
  16    operation.

  18    If executed during recovery, the <code class="command">CHECKPOINT</code> command
  19    will force a restartpoint (see <a class="xref" href="wal-configuration.html" title="28.5. WAL Configuration">Section 28.5</a>)
  20    rather than writing a new checkpoint.

  22    Only superusers or users with the privileges of
  23    the <a class="xref" href="predefined-roles.html#PREDEFINED-ROLE-PG-CHECKPOINT">pg_checkpoint</a>
  24    role can call <code class="command">CHECKPOINT</code>.
